MOSCOW, Mar 2 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operator MegaFon is holding a 35 billion ruble tender to upgrade its network across the whole country, and Chinese tech giant Huawei is believed to most probably win and elbow Finnish company Nokia, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday.

Several telecom sources told the daily MegaFon is holding a private tender to choose a supplier of radio equipment to modernize 2G, 3G, and 4G networks on the nationwide scale. The subcontractor will have to ensure readiness of the network for the 5G launch in a mode stipulating all possible frequencies.

One of the sources said the value of the procurement amounts to about 35 billion rubles. Huawei is also named as the most probable winner, which will replace Nokia in some regions.

A MegaFon representative confirmed that the company is holding a tender for current needs in equipment in the country.

According to the portal of purchases, the tender was announced on January 28 and will close on March 16.
